The smaller BioCompact® R plants consist of one container while the larger plants consist of two separate containers, which are linked on-site. All container dimensions comply with road and air transportation standards in most countries, so special transportation permits are usually unnecessary. For use on land, a concrete slab is needed to support the unit. Depending on the local climate conditions, a shelter building around the unit may be desired in order to protect maintenance personnel and equipment. On ships, BioCompact® units are integrated into the ship itself.
Ordinary maintenance includes a bimonthly check of the activated sludge’s concentration and a monthly cleaning of the sensors. The sludge holding tank must be emptied at least annually, depending on load conditions. BioCompact® R plants equipped with screening and grit removal require a periodic emptying of the refuse container.
