The smaller BioCompact® S Series plants consist of one container, the larger plants consist of two separate containers, which are linked on-site. All dimensions of the containers comply with road and air transportation standards, so that special transportation permits are usually not required in most countries for shipment of the containers. For land application, a concrete base slab is required to support the units; depending on the local climatic conditions, a shelter building around the unit may be desirable for the protection of maintenance personnel and equipment. In marine applications, units are integrated into the vessel itself.
Ordinary maintenance includes a bimonthly check of the concentration of activated sludge, a monthly check for verification of proper operation of sensors and their cleaning. The sludge holding tank needs to be emptied on an annual or biannual basis, depending on load conditions. L-series treatment plants equipped with screening and grit removal equipment require a periodic discard of grit and screenings accumulated in the refuse container.
